The 1-07 Drive

When I purchased the car, I had set my target to be driving on 1 July (1-07) as this date fits perfectly with the type number of the model we drive (107).

As the Historisch Weekend event came up just before (29 and 30 June), we had found a perfect trip for 1-07: driving from Den Helder to home while avoiding highways...

Our trip started at the sea, still with the Historisch Weekend Rally Plate on the grill

This took us from Den Helder to Enkhuizen, Lelystad, Harderwijk, Arnhem, Nijmegen, Venlo, Valkenburg and then back home. Particularly, the parts through West-Friesland, Veluwe and South-Limburg were very nice.

We also had to learn that there is only a limited number of fuel stations serving 98 (Super) fuel. This is different compared to Belgium. In NL you can find both Euro95 E10 and Eur095 E5, while in BE you can only find Euro95 with E10. So, in BE Super (Octan 98) is the alternative fuel, while in NL it is Euro 95 E5. So we have used any opportunity to get 98 fuel ;-)

It was a very long drive, especially as we made some diversions due to some bad navigation.

At the end of the trip we had increased the odometer with an additional 300 miles, bringing the total over the whole weekend to 520 miles. During the weekend the average fuel consumption was 6,86 km/liter or 14,58 liters/100 km.

This weekend was a perfect opportunity to get to know the car and discover some shortcomings:

  • One rear light does not work. Unfortunately, it is not the light bulb, so some more investigation is required...
  • The sigarette lighter does not provide any current, so our TomTom could not be used during our trip, hence some of our diversions
  • We suspect the fuel pump to make some high pitch noise. Something that was not noticeable on the maiden trip towards Den Helder...
  • There are no instrument lights, so driving in the dark (apart from the broken rear light) is not recommendable.

All elements to investigate in the upcoming time...

Will keep you posted!
